At Quesos del Casar, we are delighted to celebrate another recognition for GRAN CASAR, our P.D.O. Torta del Casar cheese, which has won the Gold Espiga Award in the Torta del Casar category at the 8th edition of the Espiga Cheese Awards, organised by Caja Rural de Extremadura.

This award is accompanied by a particularly significant distinction: Quesos del Casar has received the Grand Espiga Award for the Best P.D.O. Sheep’s Milk Cheese in Extremadura, a new category introduced this year to recognise the highest-scoring cheeses according to the type of milk used in their production.

The awards ceremony took place on 16 October in Badajoz, as part of the 3rd Espiga Agri-Food Fair, an event that showcases some of Extremadura’s most representative food products.

The cheeses were assessed through a blind tasting, in which eight experts evaluated different characteristics, including aroma, flavour, texture and appearance.

These awards are especially meaningful to us because they once again recognise GRAN CASAR and the work we have been carrying out since 1985 to preserve the essence and quality of Extremadura’s traditional cheeses.
